  1. Stephen,
Although I couldn't understand what you were saying on the audio slides, I got the general gist. I had this same debate in a tech class I taught to some of my district teachers. Most of us felt computers= ok, cell phones=MAYBE, depending. As long as you teach appropriate computer usage, fine...although of course teacher need to monitor that usage.
With cell phones... we felt it depends on several things: grade level (in elementary school in my district they aren't even allowed to have phones in school..although that doesn't stop them! [side note: WHY oh why does a 8 year old need a cell phone???]) and your class. Some of the high school teachers said that they liked that VoiceThread allowed cell phone comments; they thought their students might be more apt to use that option than a text or computer audio comment. Other middle/high school teachers said many of their classes-NO WAY! Their students were not mature enough and would abuse the technology by texting in class, or doing inappropriate things.
I have to say, I'm in the camp of no, not at this time because I think there are other technologies that are more useful and worthwhile.
